About

Luis Montoya holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree with a minor in Philosophy from the California Polytechnic State University, Pomona. He also studied Architecture Design at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad and Existentialist Philosophy at Copenhagen University in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has worked in the Los Angeles offices of KATRINTERSTEGEN and Wendy Gilmartin Architecture, where he worked through schematic design and design development stage of several projects. Working with ARKYSALE in San Diego, he assisted in early design stages, construction documentation, plan check and permitting processes, for ADUs, code enforcements, additions and redevelopments.

Before attending college in the U.S. he spent a year volunteering in a shelter for Central-American migrants in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, through the Servicio Jesuita de Jovenes Voluntarios. Growing up between San Diego and Tijuana, led to his interest in exploring the cultural dichotomy between both cultures and how this translates through art and architecture. He continues to advocate for social justice and community-focused design and organizing. He regularly does volunteer work at Centro Cultural de la Raza in San Diego and participates in the yearly organizing for their Enero Zapatista month long events.
